How Our Early Childhood Shapes Us
From the moment we’re born, we are absorbing everything and making sense of the World around us— not just through words, but through energy, emotion, tone, and body language.
In early childhood (especially from birth to age 6/7), our brains are in a highly absorbent state, functioning primarily in delta and theta brain waves — the same state accessed in meditation and hypnosis, basically we are in ‘download mode’. In this stage, we form core beliefs about ourselves, and the World based on how we are treated, what is modelled to us, and how safe or unsafe we feel in our environment.
We may start to form beliefs like:
“I’m not lovable unless I behave a certain way.”
“My emotions are too much.”
“It’s not safe to express myself.”
“I have to earn love by being good/helpful/quiet.”
These beliefs become the unconscious programming that drives how we relate to others, how we handle conflict, how we receive love, and even how successful we allow ourselves to be.
And until we bring awareness to these younger parts of ourselves, they continue running the show — no matter how much “adult” work we do.
It's Not About Fixing — It's About Witnessing
Many people think healing their inner child means having to relive their trauma or reopen old wounds. But real inner child work isn’t about forcing yourself to re-experience painful memories and it’s not about blame.
It’s about gently connecting with the parts of you that still carry emotional weight from those early experiences — not to fix them, but to hear them. To validate what they felt. To bring compassion where there was once fear or shame.
When we do this through tools like Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) and Root Cause Enquiry, the process becomes lighter, safer, and more empowering. It’s not about getting lost in the past — it’s about freeing your present.

So often, the things that block our growth — in relationships, career, self-worth, or self-expression — aren’t due to a lack of strategy or effort. They’re rooted in unconscious survival patterns created by a younger version of us.
