Clear Space, clear body, clear mind… the energetic power of decluttering.
Have you ever found yourself deep in a cleaning frenzy—sorting drawers, donating clothes, rearranging furniture—right after an emotional breakthrough? Or maybe after a good cry, you suddenly feel like clearing your desktop or tackling that messy kitchen drawer?
That’s not random. It’s energetic.
Our homes and bodies are deeply connected. What we hold onto physically often mirrors what we’re carrying emotionally. And when we release something on one level, the other begins to shift too. That’s the beautiful, natural dance of energetic alignment.
The past few months I’ve had a lingering sense of ‘stuckness’ in all areas of my life. There was the house move that never came to anything, a plateau in work opportunities, reminders of past hopes of a family that didn’t come to fruition… and I could feel it in our house, the redecorating and reorganising we’d put off because, what was the point when we were moving? Similarly with the furniture that we wanted to replace and repurpose.
Something had to shift, so I reached out to a colleague for support and began to work on what had been coming up for me, the feeling of stuckness, the physical symptoms in my body, the areas of my life that felt stagnant. I began to release all that had been suppressed and as I did, I also had the desire to begin a big clear out in my home. It wasn’t conscious, but a small sort out that quickly then turned into a huge letting go of stuff and the desire to initiate the changes that I had constantly been putting off for a later date. I was creating space not only in my mind and body but in the space around me as well, and it felt so good.
This wasn’t just a coincidence; there’s a reason that emotional release often leads to a desire for physical tidiness. Our inner world and outer world are deeply connected, often as we put down the emotional baggage that we have been holding it can create a ripple effect shifting the lens through which we view our lives and our spaces. As we release long-held emotion, positive physical changes occur within the body. As the nervous system becomes more regulated, we are able to think and make decisions, things we have been procrastinating over or putting off can suddenly find solutions with ease.
Similarly, just as our bodies may hold onto to physical tension, our spaces can hold onto emotional residue and reflect our emotional landscape. Clutter often easily accumulates during times of stress, grief, avoidance and indecision. Energetically this creates stagnation where energy is literally unable to move and flow. Objects can also hold the energy of the past whether that be positive or negative.
I distinctly remember the feeling of lightness I experienced after getting rid of a bed that I’d had for many years, it had moved with me so many times, but I knew it was time for it to go. Physically I was making space, but also energetically signalling readiness for something new.
So how can you make a start on your own energetic reset?
Start small… One drawer, one shelf, the dust that you know is lurking behind the sofa. A question to ponder might be, What’s one space in your home that feels heavy? What might it be mirroring inside?
Tune in… spend a moment feeling into your body after you’ve tidied or decluttered, What do you notice? What emotions are you letting go? What are you making space for?

Healing is holistic ~ our body, mind and space are all part of the wonderous journey of coming back to yourself. And remember, its ok to feel over-whelmed to even know where to begin, your body truly knows what it needs to let go of and I’m here to help you to interpret those clues.
