When the Body Feels Safe, It Heals: A Nervous System Approach to Missing Periods.

We Didn’t Fix Anything…

A client’s period returned three months after we started working together.

She hadn’t had one in three years.

As a somatic emotional root cause practitioner and EFT coach, I often work with women whose symptoms, from anxiety and fatigue to missing periods, don’t respond to conventional fixes.

I wanted to share this one story with you. You see, most people assume a story like this must involve medication, supplements, or some kind of physical intervention, a change in diet, acupuncture, massage, exercise… luck, magic!?

But we didn’t add anything.

No protocols.
No treatments.
No trying to “make” her body do something different.

Instead, we slowed down and gave space.

We listened to what her symptoms might be communicating. We explored the emotional weight her system had been carrying for years… the patterns her body had learned to cope, to survive, to hold everything together, to get by in the World.

Why Nervous System Safety Matters for Hormone Health

From a nervous system perspective, symptoms aren’t random, and they don’t mean you are broken.

They’re often protective.

If the body doesn’t feel safe, it prioritises survival over regulation.
Over reproduction.
Over rest.
Over repair.

It’s not dysfunction. It’s intelligence.

So rather than asking, “How do we fix this?”, we asked, “What does your body need to feel safe enough to soften?”  We worked gently. Somatically. Compassionately.  Giving her system permission to stop bracing.

This was not a mysterious formula, but a collaborative co-creation.  My client integrated what she was learning about herself, she took ownership of the patterns that we had discovered, she began to develop a new relationship with herself, catching the moments of self-abandonment and turning it into self-compassion.

And when her body no longer felt like it had to protect itself in the same way, something shifted.

Her cycle returned.

Not because we forced it, but because it was finally safe enough.

Moments like this remind me again and again:

The body isn’t the problem.  It’s often doing exactly what it learned to do.  Sometimes healing isn’t about doing more.  Sometimes it’s about creating the conditions where the body can remember how to find balance on its own.

We didn’t fix anything… and this is the lens I hold in my work, every day because I know it works.  I’ve been in that disempowered place of seeking outside, looking for the “miracle cure” but it wasn’t until I was led inside and back home to myself, that I finally found and truly felt the balance within.

If this story speaks to you, I would like to invite you to take a quiet moment with your body and ask a simple question…. Where am I out of balance right now?

Don’t make anything wrong, there are no wrong answers here. Just feel, where do you feel out of balance?

The beauty of this work is that we are not always working with a physical symptom. Sometimes, it may be just a feeling, a life circumstance, a pattern that you may have already recognised within yourself.

This is the foundation of my somatic and nervous system-based 1:1 work with women. If you are ready for this kind of support, I’m here, and I’d love to hold a 1:1 space for you to explore.
